….COOK?

What?!?

WHAT?!?!?!?!?

Sure he’s good but he’s so generic. I am shocked. Absolutely shocked and yes, disappointed. I think Archuleta is infinitely more talented. I know Archuleta will be hugely successful in spite of his loss, but is anyone else in disbelief over this news?

The number of toy recalls on products made in China due to lead is seriously disturbing. But now a new, super popular toy has just been recalled for a reason scarier than lead. The popular toy, Aqua Dots has been recalled after some infants and kids swallowed the beads and had to be hospitalized since the beads metabolize into a date rape drug when ingested. You can read the full article here.

I’m absolutely sickened after reading about this and after reading about the thousands of toy recalls that have occured just over the last few months. With the holidays coming up we need to be particularly wary of what we are purchasing for our children this year. I’ve decided as a general rule I am simply not going to purchase anything made in China at this point. I know that may limit my choices dramatically but I’m sure I’ll be able to find great quality toys that won’t poison my children in some manner.

I’ve been able to keep up to date on the many toy recalls through a fabulous blog called Not China Made which also provides a list of China free stores.

Be sure to visit the blog and educate yourself on the serious situation we are facing in the toy industry right now.

A word or two

I have found myself rather busy lately, but it’s for a great reason. I recently got a blogging job for LDSBlogs.com. I set my own hours, work at home and write about my favorite subject in the universe, Genealogy! The site launched a little over a week ago. It’s main purpose is to create more understanding about Mormons and our beliefs. My area of the site will mainly be filled with genealogy how to’s and resources. I already have around nine posts up if you want to take a look.

So if I’m not as good at commenting on all of your blogs in the next little while, please don’t take it personally. I’ll still be reading, I just may not have time to comment between posting here and over there, but I’ll try.

Where were you?

Two days before our ultrasound, which would hopefully show us the gender of our first child, my husband let me sleep in. I was 4 1/2 months pregnant, working 40 hours a week on my feet in a deli and I had come home the night previous, absolutely exhausted. I was shaken out my peaceful slumber the next morning, earlier than I had anticipated. Groggy and cranky, I painfully opened my eyes intending to tell Tom to let me sleep longer. But I stopped when I saw his face streaked with tears. I had only seen him cry once before this. Something was terribly wrong. I sat straight up and he told me one of the Twin Towers in New York City had collapsed.
His classes had been cancelled and I did not have to work that day. So we stayed at home in front of the television watching the details unfold, in disbelief.
I rubbed my belly often, wishing my child would be entering a less turbulent world, but determined to teach him/her well about loving others in spite of our differences.
Over the next few weeks I collected many local and national newspaper articles pertaining to that terrible day and have since scrapbooked them all to share with my children when they are older. I doubt any American will ever forget where they were or how they felt when they learned about the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
